Kraken Pushes IPO Timeline to 2027 as Crypto Listings Stall

The exchange froze its confidential filing process earlier this year amid tough market conditions, joining a broader slowdown in the crypto IPO pipeline.

Kraken has pushed its long-anticipated public listing timeline into 2027, freezing a confidential registration process it had originally filed in November 2025 as tough crypto market conditions dampened appetite for the offering.

The exchange's IPO plans stalled in March amid a combination of declining crypto trading volume, weaker token price performance across the broader market, and shifting investor attention toward other sectors, according to people familiar with the process. By May, reporting on the delay had already pointed toward a 2027 listing rather than the earlier-anticipated 2026 timeline, and the freeze appears to remain in place as of this month.

Kraken's delay fits into a broader pattern across the crypto IPO pipeline this year. Despite a genuinely strong overall US IPO market -- the second quarter of 2026 became the biggest quarter for US public offerings on record at $104.8 billion -- crypto-specific listings have struggled to capitalize on that broader momentum. Hardware wallet maker Ledger has similarly shelved near-term listing plans as of earlier this year, exploring private fundraising alternatives instead while it waits for more favorable market conditions.

Not every crypto-adjacent company has paused its public-market ambitions, however. Digital asset infrastructure firm tZero is continuing to prepare for a US public listing backed by Intercontinental Exchange, with its chief executive confirming discussions with banks to select an underwriter, and a funding round potentially preceding the eventual IPO. That divergence suggests the current environment is selectively challenging rather than uniformly closed to crypto listings, with company-specific factors -- backing, business model diversification, and balance sheet strength -- playing a meaningful role in which firms can still credibly pursue a near-term public offering.

For Kraken specifically, the delay means public investors will need to wait longer for direct equity exposure to one of the industry's largest and longest-operating exchanges, even as the company has continued expanding its business through moves like this year's acquisition of token infrastructure firm Magna. Whether crypto market conditions improve enough over the coming year to support a smoother 2027 listing process remains to be seen, but for now, Kraken's public-market debut joins a growing list of crypto IPOs pushed later than originally anticipated.
